Monarch of the Glen Series 2 BBC Scottish DramaContinuing Story of the MacDonald Clan of Glenbogle, Scotland
While saving a crumbling castle on a 40,000 acre estate in Scotland may not sound like the makings of a hit show, Monarch of the Glen immediately found a wide following.
At the end of Monarch of the Glen Series 1, Archie had decided to accept Justine’s offer and sell out his part of their London restaurant, Flying Fish. Making this decision freed him up to pay for critical repairs on the castle, focus on making Glenbogle profitable, and pursue a relationship with Katrina. Much to Archie’s surprise, Justine arrives out of the blue and tells Archie she is willing to move to Scotland if it means keeping him. Conflict between Archie and JustineSeries 2 opens with Archie and the gang putting together a website of Glenbogle highlights in order to draw in the punters. Tensions are running very high between Justine and Katrina as well as Justine and Lexie. In fact, everyone is at odds with Justine and it soon becomes evident that this new arrangement is not working. Justine and Archie finally part ways for good. As part of the efforts to promote Glenbogle to visitors, Archie hires a Head Ranger to develop hiking trails and conservation areas on the estate. The arrival of Fergal MacClure (played by Jason O'Mara) changes the dynamic of Archie and Katrina’s relationship once again. Hector and Molly Have Problems of Their OwnMeanwhile, other Glenbogle residents are facing their own challenges. Hector and Molly must come to terms with a very pregnant and unmarried daughter, Lizzie, who arrives home just in time to have her baby. Archie’s chances of receiving a much-needed grant check are seriously in doubt due to Hector’s insensitive treatment of an former girlfriend forty years ago. And Molly’s little habit of betting on the horses finally catches up with her and creates major financial problems which she and Hector keep from Archie. An American Laird of Glenbogle? The last episode of Series 2 brings about Archie’s greatest challenge to date – the arrival of an American MacDonald who claims to be the rightful Laird of Glenbogle and plans to take over the ancestral home and title. Archie, Hector and Kilwillie must pull out all the stops to deal with the would-be usurper. Character Development, Scenery and Music Highlight Series 2Series 2 offers great character development and moves along the tale of Archie’s struggle to save Glenbogle. Each episode advances the storyline while bringing in fresh faces and outside influences. Once again, the gorgeous scenery adds to the charm of the show and reminds the viewer that this is no typical story. The fantastic music continues to add depth and beauty to the show as well, often playing as central a role to the storyline as the dialogue and actors themselves. Monarch of the Glen Series 2 is available on DVD and is also frequently rebroadcast on several different networks around the world. Series 2 was followed by Series 3.
