Hell's Kitchen UK Series Four on ITV1Marco Pierre White leads another group of hapless Celebrities
Another week and another cooking show gets a new series on television, this time it's ITV's tantrum ridden and occasionally controversial Hell's Kitchen.
Marco Pierre White is back in Hell’s Kitchen as head chef, the first cook in its history to have a second go, as a new group of celebrities old, new and unknown prepare to feed a restaurant packed full of moaning diners each night. The wannabe chefs are given just two weeks to learn how to dish up restaurant quality food by a man famous for being unforgiving and notoriously hard to please (apparently he drove a young Gordon Ramsey to tears). Adrian Edmondson, Bruce Grobbelaar and...Anthea TurnerThis year’s celeb chefs are a Liquorice Allsorts assortment with former Bottom and Holby City star Adrian Edmondson as the pink coconut one and Anthea Turner as the round twisty one that everybody hates. The rest are model Danielle Bux, singer Ms Dynamite, former Liverpool goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar, entrepreneur Grant Bovey (or Mr Anthea Turner...oh what fun to be had), Shameless star Jody Latham and Dynasty’s Linda Evans. There are a few changes to the structure this year as there will be only one team with everyone out for themselves to impress. Each night the two trainee chefs who have failed to live up to White’s high standards will be banished from the kitchen to wait on tables for the rest of the evening. The front of house has been given a make over as It Takes Two’s Claudia Winkleman has replaced TV’s Mr Suave Angus Deayton as the show’s host. Jean Christophe Novelli and Mario Batali will also make an appearance in the series to put the trainees through their paces in a set of culinary challenges. Marco Pierre White’s Second turn as Head Chef after Controversial First YearTwo years ago legendary chef Marco Pierre White came out of retirement to become Hell's Kitchen overlord after Gordon Ramsey turned his back on a return to sun it up in America on the US version. White’s first reign on the show didn’t go as smoothly as planned after his comments about a “pikey's picnic” prompted complaints to OFCOM and were alleged to have led to Blue’s Lee Ryan quitting after three days. Much offence was caused by Jim Davidson turning up and being Jim Davidson (i.e. racist, sexist and homophobic) to the point that he was asked to leave due to his bullying of Big Brother’s Brian Dowling. Will this year be any different? On coming back White said: “Doing Hell’s Kitchen for the first time was tough. I’d never been there before. I’d never done reality TV before. I stepped onto a stage not knowing what to expect. If they [the celebs] don’t work as a team player, if they’re not punctual, I’ll sack them, it’s as simple as that.” Hell’s Kitchen “opens” for its fourth series on Monday, April 13 at 9pm.
