24 Day Seven Finale

Jack Bauer's Last Stand?

May 26, 2009 Pete Cummings

The final two episodes of the cult US series have been broadcast on British TV, but what now for hero Jack, villain Tony, revenge seeking Renee and hapless Kim?

The finale as certainly left viewers on a knife-edge as Tony is taken into custody and Jack on his deathbed while Kim, who has managed to escape from yet another dangerous situation is trying to save her father.

Will Kim’s Actions Save Jack?

As soon as it was known that Jack was dying from the pathogen, there has always been the glimmer of hope that his daughter Kim would save him by using her stem cells to counter act the effects of the pathogen. Jack however, didn’t want that to happen, as there was only a small chance of it succeeding. He therefore told Kim not to wait around for him to die and return to Los Angeles. Kim’s amazing ability to find trouble resurfaced, befriending the wrong couple, Bob and Sarah at the airport as she waited for her flight home. After a shootout, Sarah is killed and Kim follows Bob before he too is killed. Kim then races to Jack’s side to offer the stem cells. She made it in time to undergo the operation, but will it be enough to save her father?

Is Renee The New Jack?

After leading a successful assault against Tony Almeida’s location, Renee Walker took the slippery and shady Alan Wilson into custody. After Wilson denied any involvement in the day’s events, Renee asked Jack for advice on how to proceed. The former CTU agent replied by simply telling her to make the choices she could live with. With Wilson due to be turned over to the justice department to face treason charges, techno geek Janis arrives and asks Renee to sign Wilson’s release forms. Renee doesn’t answer her and seemingly gets ready to interrogate Wilson herself. Faced with Janis’s interference, Renee aims a gin at her colleague, tells her to handcuff herself to a pipe and places her FBI badge on the table. Her sinister move into the cell is reminiscent to Jack’s in previous series, but does Renee have what it takes to extract the information she needs?

Does Almeida Still Have A Role To Play?

Tony started day seven as the bad guy, brought back from the dead and turned against his country. It was only following Jack’s interference that Tony was revealed as the good guy, before going evil again and killing agent Moss. After being captured, he is then released by a compromised Jack, who had just discovered Kim’s situation. After taking Jack with him in an apparent attempt to recreate the pathogen, Jack escapes but Tony captures him. The two argue and Tony’s real agenda comes to the fore; he wants revenge for Michelle’s murder and Wilson was the man behind it. As he was ready to kill Wilson, Renee shoots him in the shoulder. Tony crawls towards the gun on the floor despite Jack’s warning not to, before being shot in the hand by Jack. Does Tony have another role to play on day eight?

Day Eight Already In Production

With the new series already in production, it won’t be long before we find out if Jack lives to fight another day. Kiefer Sutherland has already signed up for the eight series, but is it just a cameo role or has the stem cell treatment worked? Also signed up for day eight is Annie Wersching, who plays FBI agent Renee Walker. Questions will soon be answered and with a big film production of the series planned, 24 fans have much to look forward to.
