Has Tony turned bad again?

Did Tony Almeida really kill FBI agent Larry Moss or is it another in a line of fake deaths throughout the series?

At the start of day 7, Almeida was the bad guy, responsible for the near miss of two planes landing at a New York airport. Following his capture by Jack Bauer, it was revealed that Tony was in fact a good guy, working under cover with ex-CTU operatives Bill Buchanan and Chloe O'Brian. Jack then aided Tony's escape from FBI custody and helped him successfully go back under cover. Tony then almost sacrificed his life twice by first assisting Jack in stealing the bio weapons from Jonas Hodges then, once Hodges had retrieved them, successfully destroyed them in an explosion on the Starkwood base.

Not all Weapons Destroyed

Unfortunately, not all the bio weapons were destroyed in the blast as a rogue Starkwood operative was caught in possession of a hand held canister by an FBI agent. The operative killed the agent and escaped, but was pursued by Tony and Moss in a helicopter before being cornered. A fire fight ensued and Moss was shot by the operative. Tony ran to his aid and, as Moss tried to tell Almeida the operative was behind him, Almeida turned and ordered the operative to stop, before covering Moss's mouth to apparently suffocate him, although if Almeida really wanted the FBI agent dead, he could have just shot him which would have been quicker.

History of Fake Deaths

If Tony has faked Moss's death, it will be the second of day 7, with Jack already forced to 'kill' FBI agent Renee Walker, who was trying to prevent Sangala Prime Minster Matobo being kidnapped. Jack was ordered to kill her but the shot just grazed her neck. However, the fake went wrong when Jack was then ordered to bury the body after only covering her with a plastic sheet. Renee died but was resuscitated by Buchanan and Chloe, who had been tracing Jack and Tony.

In the first series, Jack had to fake the death of Nina Myers, before being stunned to learn that Victor Drazen, a man who Jack supposedly assassinated years earlier was alive and behind the events of day one. Jack also had to fake his own and Presidential candidate David Palmer's death when Drazen tried to kill them both in an explosion. Jack wanted Drazen to believe he had been successful, but was double crossed by Nina.

After infiltrating the Chinese embassy in series 4, Jack had to fake his own death to avoid capture by the Chinese, before going into hiding. Almeida himself can sort of claim a fake death. In series 5, he was supposedly killed, yet in series 7 he turns up alive and seeking revenge on the government.

Feature Film Planned

Day 8 will begin filming in May 2009 as day 7 has a direct impact on its events and it has now been revealed that a feature film of the show is also being discussed which is expected to be the last time we see Jack Bauer. The film was planned for release in 2007, but was put on hold to concentrate on the TV series. The rumour is that a big screen version of the show will be a perfect send off for Jack, leaving the world to finally fend for itself.
